So you’re thinking about launching a WordPress website or blog but you are torn between using a free WordPress theme or a premium theme that you have to pay for?
Or may currently be using a free theme, but you are thinking about buying a paid theme because the free one lacks the functionality you need?
Well in this blog post, I am going to try and persuade you with a few reasons why you should NOT use a free theme.
WordPress themes that are free are not all that they are cracked up to be and can harm your online business in more ways than one.
Nothing is ever free. There is always a price to pay directly or indirectly. Always remember that.
In this article, I want to share with you 6 reasons why you should never use a free WordPress theme for your site.
These 6 reasons should convince you to start using a premium paid theme, and at the end of this article, I will give you a recommendation to what I think is the best-paid theme on the market.
So without further ado, let’s begin.
Free Themes are Not Secure
If you think free WordPress themes are safe and secure, think again.
Free WordPress themes are littered with outdated code and often contain malware that can damage your site and server.
The developers of free WordPress themes rarely, or in a lot of cases never, update their themes to defend against security breaches. t’s not uncommon for sites using WordPress to get hacked and infected with malicious code.
Having a secure WordPress site/blog is extremely important to maintaining a successful online business.
No Customer Support
Most free WordPress themes lack any sort of customer support.
If you are having a problem with a theme that you’ve installed, you can forget about getting any help.
This is one of the unfortunate trade-offs of getting anything for free.
The developers have no incentive to help you because they are not getting paid. And I can’t blame them.
If customer support is important to you when choosing a theme, then avoid free WordPress themes entirely.
One of the Worst reasons why free WordPress themes are not worth using is because they rarely if ever, get consistent updates.
No updates mean the theme will break due to outdated code, or hackers can breach your theme since it’s vulnerable, and destroy your entire online business.
As I mentioned earlier, the developer of free themes has no financial incentive to keep their theme updated. So they will let it become outdated.
With a paid premium theme, developers are obligated to keep it updated constantly with the latest version of WordPress because their reputation and income are on the line.
It Makes Your Site Look Cheap
Free WordPress themes can make your site look cheap and cheesy.
The design is usually rushed and slapped together by the developer, and you have no ability to easily customize it to your liking unless you dig deep into the code. And I highly suggest you don’t mess with the code unless you know what you are doing.
When you have a poorly designed & unappealing site, your visitors will leave quickly. They will not care what you have to offer because they will assume that your content can’t be good if you did not make the effort to get or design an eye-catching website.
Unfortunately, people do judge a book by its cover in the online world.
It’s best to invest in a premium theme where you or a developer-for-hire can customize your WordPress website to your desires.
Believe it or not, WordPress themes are very popular targets for hackers since the code is open source.
Hackers have the ability to insert spam links, malware, and all sorts of malicious code to gain access to your site and take advantage of it.
Also in some cases, you have shady theme designers that will place malicious code in theme files to redirect your visitors to specific websites that they will benefit from monetarily or hit your sites with spam links.
Using a paid theme will avoid this disaster completely.
Free themes are usually not customizable.
Most premium themes you pay for have customization features where you are able to change colors of the theme, upload your log, change your font height, customize your header, etc.
Pretty much you are stuck with what you get.
So What’s the Best Premium WordPress Theme Available?
With all this being said, I am sure you are now convinced to invest in a premium theme.
The best premium theme in my honest opinion is Thrive Themes.
Thrive Themes is a fully customizable, beautiful theme that will have your site looking legit.
The developers of Thrive Themes are constantly updating the theme, customer support is beyond amazing, they provide a ton of learning material to hone in on your marketing so you can grow your online business, and they are consistently adding new features.
Also, when you buy into a Thrive Suite Membership, you get access to 10 more plugins to help build your WordPress site and your online business.
I’m an avid user and fan of Thrive Themes and I know you will be happy with the theme as well.
In conclusion, if you are using a free theme, it’s high time to get rid of it and invest in a premium theme. You are actually hurting your online business by continuing to use free themes.
That’s all for today. Let me know your thoughts on using free vs paid themes in the comment section below. Take care!
